UWISAY E-Board

Fall 2016

President:

Hope Weinstein (Hopper ‘18): Hope is a Chemical Engineering major and part of the Energy Studies Program. She works for the Yale Admissions Office and gives engineering tours on campus. Hope joined UWISAY because she wants to help empower other females to pursue their interests in STEM as well as be a part of the female STEM community on campus.

Random fact: Hope lived and worked in Amsterdam for three months this past summer.

Secretary:

Zarrin Subha (Ezra Stiles ‘19): Zarrin is probably going to be an MCDB major, though she keeps going back and forth. She cares a lot about people and health, and hopes to combat health disparities in her work. She aspires to be a perinatologist (a specialized OB/GYN who deals with complications around birth). On campus, Zarrin works in a lab at the Reproductive and Placental Research Unit at the Yale School of Medicine and volunteers with Students for Autism Awareness. She joined UWISAY because she loves and hopes to support her sisters in STEM.

Random fact: Zarrin loves to tell people that she’s from the Jersey Shore for the reactions.

Treasurer:

Julia Wei (Silliman ’19): Julia is a prospective physics major with an interest in scientific computing. She copy edits for the Yale Daily News and writes for the Yale Scientific, where she reports on the latest scientific discoveries around campus. Julia joined UWISAY to meet and learn from other female scientists, with hopes to build a strong support system for all women in science.

Random fun fact: Julia loves milk tea.

Co-Chairs of Mentoring:

Isabel Zheng (Pierson ‘18): Isabel is a prospective major in MCDB planning on pursuing a career in medicine. She is very interested in research and she plays on the club tennis team. Isabel joined UWISAY to  encourage and provide female students unique opportunities in the sciences.

Random fact: Isabel loves rock climbing and doing clay on the wheel.

Andrea Ouyang (Davenport ‘19): Andrea is a prospective MCDB major. She joined UWISAY because she wanted to be part of the amazing community of incredible women and scientists at Yale (and she’s definitely been inspired over the past year by everyone she’s met in the organization!). In addition to UWISAY, she also writes and photographs for the Yale Scientific Magazine and volunteers for the Hunger and Homelessness Action Project.

Random fact: She once (re)read all the Harry Potter books in two seven-hour sittings.

Chair of Speakers:

Mary Chukwu (Davenport ‘18): Mary is an environmental engineering major and a premed student. She spent the summer after her freshman year doing research on a rare chronic lung disease while in Denver, Colorado and is planning on joining a Yale research lab this year as a junior. She has written for Yale Scientific Magazine, with which she has had the joy of reporting on topics ranging from particle physics to autoimmunity.  She joined UWISAY because she wanted to be a part of a scientific community that values outreach.

Random fact: Mary studied in Cambridge, England for eight weeks over this past summer.

Chairs of Outreach/Conference:

Maddie Zoltek (Berkeley ‘18): Maddie is a Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry major. On campus, she helps out with outreach for iGEM, does research in an RNA lab on West Campus (though she’s also really interested in immunology and has been doing a ton of personal reading on antibiotic resistance). In her free time, she plays piano. Maddie loves UWISAY because she finds it to be incredibly inspiring and humbling to be a part of a group of women as accomplished, passionate, and driven as the women scientists she’s met at Yale. She hope to help not only women be successful and recognized in their scientific pursuits, but also young girls and teens who should know they have the potential to succeed in any career they choose.

Random fact: The first and only time she had been out of the country, Maddie missed her connecting flight and ended up in New Delhi completely alone at 1 am.

Gena Coblentz (Jonathan Edwards ‘19) is an Applied Mathematics major. During her free time, she stays involved in the JE college community, working as a Kitchen Manager and Head of College Aide. Gena joined UWISAY because she’s not only passionate about STEM, but also about helping women find their niches and gain footing as engineers, mathematicians, scientists, and more. She wants to help promote events and programs that provide support as well as work to foster community and camaraderie among Yale’s women in STEM.

Random fact: Gena held a world record in rowing during her freshman year in high school. One month later, it got broken.

Chair of Community Service:

Sarah Healy (Hopper ‘18): Sarah is a Psychology major on the Neuroscience track. She currently works in the Yale Decision Neuroscience lab on a project about food decision-making and obesity, and she hopes to pursue future studies that draw from both the fields of neuroscience and public health. Sarah joined UWISAY because she wants to contribute to the strong network of women in STEM on campus and help to create opportunities to foster and build this community.

Random fact: Sarah knows how to juggle.
